you know those foward emails that you hate getting...

Well you are just in luck... because this isn't an email... but I did take this from one of those forwards!

The forward says the following:

Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio .TTo celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time.. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come....

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

So I guess I liked it. Some more than other (in fact I made the ones I really liked bold to let you know).

12 April 2011

i have a lot of other great qualities too.

remember when marcel the shell said that.... "... and i have a lot of other great qualities too"

welp. i am going to share some facts (ok not so much qualities) about me.

why. because fellow blogger of mine...  awarded me the the "7 Facts Blog Award." (thanky!) As a result of receiving the award. all i have to do is list 7 random facts about myself. thanks stephanie for the shout out!

seven facts about me.

1. i eat vegetables.
ok. you caught me. i am a vegetarian. and i love vegetables (and carbs too). ive been one for a decade now... so things are working out pretty good for me. i love being a vegetarian but sometimes i greatly dislike all the questions and discussions that come with it... (why are you a vegetarian, do you miss meat, if there was a burger in front of you would you eat it, what if there was no food left on the earth but meat).... that list can go on for some time. i am a vegetarian because I want to be... i want YOU to be whatever because YOU want to be... I don't judge meat-eaters that's your choice not mine (do I ask you a million questions about why you eat meat... nope) and let's be honest my reasons for being a vegetarian have changed over time.... didnt want to eat friendly animals, animal housing conditions, environmental effects, human rights issues...anywho... i am a veggie!

2. boston college is heaven on earth.
i guess i should also take this time to say that i am 22 and have been in the catholic school environment since i was 4. thanks saint judes, divine savior holy angels, boston college and now cristo rey jesuit for keeping me a catholic school girl. but really i love bc. i went there (kinda sorta) on a whim... and i am so glad i got to spend four amazing years there

3. i like prime numbers.
2,3,7,11.... i like 'em all.

4. i make to do lists..
i love them. i make them. i make little boxes next to the task. and i check/cross/slash things off when i am done. i seriously live by these because i am an uber forgetful person... the to do lists keep my head on straight.

5. i like to rock a side pony
the higher. the sassier. the better.

6. niemer envy.
my mom says a lot of people have this. real envy of wishing they could be a part of our awesome family. i think she is on to something.

7. i like hobbies... like scrapbooking and collecting flattened pennies

seriously. i love having hobbies. i really have a bunch. i do love to scrapbook (although i havent done it in a while) and i also love to collect flattened pennies... i have a bunch (like close to 100) and i have some wonderful friends who have collected some along the way for me...spain. equador. disney. nola. boston... you name it. if its a flattened penny I will take it! and if you are reading this and acquire some and want to send them my way i will love you forever!

i do have other great qualities too...

07 April 2011

behold god beholding you and smiling..

just a shout out to my roommate (emily) who did a community night that got us all writing affirmations for eachother. she also told us that it could be a time to write something about the relationship/feedback.. i can't think of the right phrase for this... but she said something along the lines of sometimes its easier to talk to someone about something when its through the lens of love...

she then hung them in our room yesterday.

last night i picked one at random and read it.

now i am not going to say who its from... but as always affirmations are nice to read and hear.. this one was particularly pleasant because it was simple and sweet. and reminded me that some friendships just work. and for that i am lucky.

some other random thoughts on this.... when i wrote mine i wrote it under the idea of "BDG" which is a game my highscool friends and i sometimes play when we come together.

its really simple. you share one "brag" one "deisre" and one "gratitude"

this gave me an outline for my community notes as all my community mates have many things to
brag about.
long for.
and remind me why i am thankful to live with them for a year!

final thought...
the title of my blog is what the front of our affirmations read.
behold god beholding you and smiling.

its from Anthony de Mello.

like (facebook style).

you better fan youreslf, because i can tell that you're hot.

a beer tour. a beer hall.

a tour guide who sasses people who are talking...

not.
 riding a beer barrel.... hot!

green beer. saint patricks day dinner. english muffin pizzas. green mystery drink that maggie makes... all hot.

falling in a plastic bubble... not. ( for one of our community nights we went to the rodeo (trip three for me) and they have these bubble things you can buy to run around in like a gerbil for 7 minutes).

rodeo time.... i am just not sure how i feel about all these animal activities... hot or not? i am leaning towards not.

pretzel juice... hot (not this is an old pretzel container that we used to bring lemonade to hermann park for one of their FREE performances at miller out door theatre!

dislocating you thumb in a warrior dash... not hot. (look at my to-do list which looks like a ransom note)!

i got to venture with a bunch of the freshman english classes to the museum of fine arts houston! learning about art (showing a story not telling).... hot!
