wire me a face

I thought I would pass along another round of photos taken from the artwork of my students! Since the class is a semester long, I have a whole new group of students. I am doing some similar projects but a lot of new inspiration has come along!

Love this interpretation of eyebrows.

This student almost always has a pencil behind his ear so he wanted to include it in his sculpture too!

This is  a hard angle... but to me this one looks like a logo design!

Again, this photo is taken at a bad angle but this student made his face 3D!

I am totally into this creative way to make the nose and mouth!

randoms

Back from Big Bend! I survived but before I spin the wheeels on that one. (gotta organize my photos and brain etc) I thought I would pass along some other images etc.

Ira (my new bike) was really due for a cleaning (meaning I acquired a REALLY dirty bike)... I tried out this home remedy using tin foil and lemon juice and it worked pretty well!

Oh and I needed a hemlet... And I am a nutcase!

I've been experimenting in some linoleum block carving for a future project to do with my students... Here is my face!

The students at the helipad at Memorial Hermann!

fat tuesday!

happy fat tuesday all!

i had myself some kings cake... so you know im living in the south (and more importantly a driving distance from NOLA)...ah so many memories from last year!

anywho I thought I would pass along some mardi gras related photos from last week.... when a few of the CRJ crew partook in a Young Texas Against Cancer Olypmics. Sadly we didn't win... but we had a lot of fun!
Here are some streamers I put up... this picture was taken more recently... I was surprised at how much they droop!

The ladies!

all DRESSed up with no where to go!

Just kidding... There are always places to go!

I made this dress the other day. This was my first attempt at making clothes! I have never done that before. In the end I liked the way it turned out but next time Ill use better fabric... I just grabbed whatever was on sale and it isn't typical clothing fabric... meaning its a tad scratchy and it wrinkles easily... thankfully the pattern of the fabric is so crazy that it doesn't show it too much!

current class project

We finished the wire sculptures for this semester's students... I'll pass along pictures soon.

The next project is kind of a fun one. To me it really shows how much or how little the students choose to use their creative side.

They each make a stencil, any size, shape, simple or intricate. Then they have to make a composition. And then do it again and AGAIN... each time a little different.

Part 1

Part 2
Part 3
Below are a few that I chose just one of the three that the students made...

shoes!

monsters.

And mine! Sometimes I love when the kids are working hard and I can just be in the creative moment too (sadly there is usually a lot to do, see, critique) or something...

I made the stencil and image below but never finished it last semester.... now that the students are back working on the project I decided to get in on it too again... AND I was having some trouble figuring out what I wanted to do with the white space... a student ending up giving me the idea! (just another reason why I LOVE critiques and wish I could find away to still do them for my own work besides bugging people)!

Ill send the finished project your way when I am done!

cake pop job!

Some updates on cake pops... because boy do I love them...

I recently got a new "warmer"... it's definitely helped out the cake pop production as I don't have to keep running back and forth from the microwave...
yummmmm baby blue candy melts!
I made a bunch over superbowl weekend... I made some for a co-worker... she hired me HOW exciting! My dad made coffee cups wayyyy back when and gave Richie and I each a set... who knew that they would be the perfect size for cake pops!

Don't these cake pops look naked!
I totally feel in love with these sprinkles they really made the cake pops look fantastic. Thank you, sprinkles!

Ah! Now, how awesome are these sprinkles.
Every cake pop needs a stage! So I made cake pop stands (two of them) for the 50 cake pops I was making!

Look at the progress.

I made some with swirls!
And here is the finished product!

I also made some cake pops for the superbowl party we were going to. I knot it is a bit hard to see what is going on with these.... but they are little helmets! And Tomas helped me make fake paper grass!
